23k awarded to Mayo youth organisations

Three youth organisations in the Mayo area have been awarded €23,323 through the Artist in Youth Work Residency Award run by NYCI’s Youth Arts programme. Castlebar Neighbourhood Youth Project has received €10,000 to create an indoor installation in Ballyhaunis using animation and puppetry. Youthreach Kiltimagh has been awarded €6,323 to provide young people to work with two local artists to enable the group to create a performance piece based on samba drumming and costume making for the St Patrick’s Day parade, and Louisburgh Community Project has received €7,000 to interpret the life of Granuaille by creating an installation incorporating music, puppetry, movement and multi-media.  

European Commission may investigate delay in providing Mayo schemes

The delay in providing much-needed water and sewerage schemes in Mayo due to the Polluter Pays Principle (PPP) could soon be the subject of an investigation by the European Commission following a recent meeting between Labour's Councillor Keith Martin and Labour MEP Proinsias De Rossa.

Sancta Maria in public speaking regional final

The National Forum on Europe’s Transition Year Public Speaking Competition has been completed in Co Mayo. The next stage of the competition is the regional final which will take place in Sligo before Christmas. Wilson to also contend for Westport Town Council

Mayo local election candidate Andy Wilson has also put his name forward as a candidate Westport Town Council. Mr Wilson said he had originally not intended to stand in the town, but had been encouraged to do so by supporters.
